TEFL Course Info

Why take a TEFL Certificate Course?

  • The fact that you are reading our website probably means that:
    • you are considering starting a career in Teaching English as Foreign Language
    • you are already teaching but do not yet hold a TEFL/TESL/TESOL certification
    • you wish to develop yourself as a teacher by learning more about proven TEFL/TESOL methodology
    • your employer or organization requires a recognised TEFL/TESOL certificate
    • you know something about TEFL methodology but lack the classroom skills and practical experience
    • you would like to increase your earning potential and job prospects by taking a TEFL/TESOL qualification.

Whatever your reasons, you are likely to want to become the best teacher you can, and any recognised, International standard TEFL Course should help you to do this. It will also give you a range of tools and techniques for use in the classroom, and will boost your own confidence and open your mind to new ways of teaching languages which can also be applied very successfully to content subjects such as Math, Science, Computing, Social Studies, Business – in fact any subject where the students are learning through a language which is not their mother tongue. Through using TEFL methodologies and approaches you will see greater results and your students will be more confident and motivated to learn.

  • Having a TEFL Certificate is often a condition of employment within good quality, professional English language teaching environments, particularly language schools and learning centres. Indeed, in some countries (e.g. England) it is extremely difficult to get a job teaching English without a recognised TEFL/TESL/TESOL certification. However, in addition to a TEFL certification, it must be said that in Thailand you will find it almost impossible to get a job in a government school, university or International school without a degree, but this does not normally apply to language schools or private organizations, where the pay is also likely to be higher.
  • Professionally trained TEFL Certificate holders are likely to be paid more for their knowledge and expertise than an unqualified teacher.
  • Whilst holding a degree can get you a teaching job in Thailand, unless it is in a related field, (e.g. TEFL/TESOL), it is unlikely that you will have the TEFL methodology that equips you to Teach English as a Foreign Language to your maximum potential, (as can so often be observed in the classroom when comparing a TEFL qualified teacher to an unqualified one) Although an unqualified TEFL teacher may indeed be a good teacher, the approaches and methods for producing a communicative, student centred, learning environment, first need to be learnt and then practiced by teachers themselves.

Whilst there are many worthwhile TEFL methodology teacher resource books available on the market, and a wide range of online courses to choose from, there is absolutely no substitute for classroom practice and peer/trainer observations to aid your development, if this is a practical and viable option.
