Teaching Opportunities Hua Hin
Hua Hin has become a centre for the international community in Thailand.
The Royal Resort town is increasingly recognized as a desirable place to live, work, raise families, retire, and of course spend holidays. International universities, schools, hotels and companies have sprung up and flourished in and around Hua Hin.
Two international universities came, like many individuals, in search of a pleasant environment within easy reach of Bangkok. Then, there is no doubt of the trust protective parents put in Hua Hin, home of the traditional Royal retreat of Wang Klai Kangwol, ‘far from worries’. There are also a couple of local Thai universities/Institutes and who have started to employ qualified EFL teachers.
Parents seek out schools with quality English teachers and the schools themselves have been scrambling to meet the demand. WECI has been chosen to manage the special English programs within these schools. The challenge has been a major factor in WECI lending support to a training program that turns out confident qualified teachers.
One school recently bowed to the need for locally educating children of foreign residents and workers and the desire of Thai parents to have their children study on a full English program offering all lessons in English, based on Thai and international curriculums.. Somtawin School Hua Hin currently offers enrolment to kindergarten, primary and year one of secondary school level (Grades 1 – 7). It also plans to open a proper international school in 2006, open to both Primary and Secondary students, with boarding facilities; in order to provide an international standard of education not only to the residents of Hua Hin but to all of Thailand. This will also open up numerous employment possibilities for TEFL teachers, qualified to teach at an International School.
Of the few language schools in the area, WECI is the most established with a reputation for quality and is officially recognized by the Ministry of Education. It is unusual in its insistence on small class sizes, thereby catering for those customers who are committed to producing learning through communicative TEFL methodologies and approaches, rather than the more traditional teaching styles.
The hotels in the Hua Hin and Cha-am area are numerous, often well known international chains, competitive, and usually large. They employ a huge slice of the local workforce as well as English teachers. Managers want to see results, keeping bosses and guests happy by understanding their requests and minimizing language borne mistakes. They have learnt, over the years, through proven results, to employ qualified teachers whenever possible. Many use WECI to manage their English Programs, and have ongoing contracts.
Large fruit packaging export companies have been here in Prachuab Kirikhan, the pineapple garden of Thailand, for about twenty years. New companies are being relocated, opening new branches, or being launched to cope with the demand of the emerging cosmopolitan situation.
In short, Hua Hin needs qualified teachers for this rapidly expanding area.

Schools
Somtawin School Hua Hin – Full English Program
 Somtawin School, situated right in the center of Hua Hin, employs a team of approximately 12 native English speaker teachers, teaching all subjects across the curriculum. Its management and teachers are dedicated, caring individuals who work extremely hard to provide an international standard of education for the area’s local expatriate and Thai community. Class sizes are small and classes are multilingual, with students from Asia, Europe, America and Australasia. Somtawin currently offers education for kindergarten levels and grades 1 – 7. It is currently building an International School, due to open in 2006, to cater for the growing demand in Hua Hin and surrounding environs.

Hua Hin Wittayacom
Situated in a sub district of Hua Hin called Bon Kai, Hua Hin Wittayacom employs a few qualified English language teachers to teach English to Mattayom 1 and 2 levels.
Universities and Educational Institutes
 Situated between Hua Hin and Cha-am, Webster and Stamford Schiller are the area’s two international universities, catering for students of all nationalities. They both have there own websites and enquiries for employment can be made through these.
Rajamongala Institute of Technology
Having two sites in the area, Rajamongala specializes in Hospitality and Engineering courses. Students are Thai and attend either full time or part time. Their English for Hospitality course are managed by WECI and provide an opportunity for teachers who enjoy teaching Business English or ESP.
International Hotel Chains
Hua Hin has an every increasing number of 5 star and international hotel chains, including the Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, Regent and Sofitel Central resorts. Most of these hotels provide English language training for their staff and consequently employ teachers or run specialist English programs through WECI.
Thai Hotel Chains
With the growing influx of international tourists, many of the Thai 3 and 4 star hotels are looking at English language training for their staff. This tends to take place manly out of high season, so demand for teachers is usually on a seasonal basis.
Local Companies
Aside from Tourism, one of the main areas of industry is the pineapple plantations. Once you have tasted a Hua Hin pineapple, no other pineapple tastes quite like it! Therefore, some of the bigger export companies and canning operations, such as Dole and Tipco have a need for English language training, either on a full or part time basis.
Surrounding Areas – Prachuab and Petchaburi
Schools and tertiary colleges in the surrounding areas of Prachuab and Petchaburi offer a number of teaching opportunities for qualified teachers.
Prachuab Kiri Khan
This city is the capital of the province and is home to the many government departments. The local high school, Prahcuab Wittayalai employs qualified English language teachers, amongst others, and WECI also has a branch here.
Petchaburi
Petchaburi is 1 hour north of Hua Hin and has a large selection primary and secondary schools plus tertiary level institutes. A number of teachers in the Petchaburi area live in Hua Hin and commute daily either by road or rail.
