WECI Benefits and Conditions
Full Time Contracts
Hours of Work
Full time teachers are employed on a one-year contract, with 2 days off per week.
The contracted teaching hours are 96 hours per month (averaging out to 24 hours per week) with required attendance at weekly teacher's meetings, including 5 hours of preparation time/standby per week. Teachers take it in turns to be available for placement testing, which are included in the above hours. Should a teacher not be allocated a full compliment of teaching hours then they will be asked, on occasions, to be involved in standby duties such as material preparation, test writing or placement testing.
Classes are held mornings, afternoons and evenings during weekdays, and morning and afternoons at weekends. Hours of work will be dependant on the needs of the school and although every effort is made to "balance" teaching days, in a language school it is inevitable that some teachers may have a morning and evening class (split shift) during the week and/or morning and afternoon classes at weekends. The busiest time is at the weekends and therefore carries the heaviest teaching load - it can involve teaching a period of 12 hours over Saturday and Sunday - 6 hours per day.
Salary
The starting salary for full time contract teachers is 25,000 - 30,000 Baht per month. (This figure is net - after tax and insurance has been deducted). This includes 15 paid national holidays a year plus a minimum of 6 days annual holiday to be taken around Christmas and New Year. WECI provides the work permit.
Medical Insurance
WECI provides private medical insurance for its full time teachers.
Probation Period
Under Thai law there is a 4-month probationary period, during which time either party can cancel the contract. However, should a teacher choose to leave during the probationary period then WECI is entitled to recoup the cost of work permit administration costs.
